VENDOR FEATURE - dips & spreads
As we celebrate International Women’s Day here at Park Street Gourmet, we’re highlighting our female vendors making a difference in the local food industry by asking them to share an inspiring and empowering message to all of us.
Today, we speak with Diana, the lady behind Dips & Spreads
Q: How long have you been running your business for?
"Gosh, it feels like I’ve been doing it all my life, but we’ve been in operation for about a year and a half now. A simple idea quickly transformed into action and morphed into what Dips & Spreads is today."
Q: What do you think helped you get this far in your business? How can we mentor young girls to pursue their dreams and keep dreaming bigger?
"I would have to say hard work, innovation and using social media and other networks to showcase our products. As a mum of two beautiful girls, who works fulltime and runs a house and home – it may be easier to justify not taking anything more on. However, exercising a growth mindset and making the small sacrifices along the way helped shape how far we have come in a short space of time. I must thank and commend my family – especially my husband, without whom this would not be possible.
As a society we must be motivators & positive enablers, sharing stories of not just successes but failures also, I feel this will allow young girls to pursue their dreams whilst being fully equipped to handle what comes in their way."
Q: Share an empowering moment as a woman that inspired you.
"Becoming a mum has certainly been it for me. My daughters inspire me every day – to be better, to be more carefree, to have a wild sense of humor, and so much more!"
Q: What is one piece of advice to all women who are juggling between home and work?
"The fact is that most households now have both partners working. With women contributing to the household income and enhancing the lifestyle we collectively lead as a family, it is not unreasonable to expect shared responsibilities across house, home, and kids, as applicable. Sometimes we just need to ask for the support we need. None of us needs to find a voice, we already have a voice – we just need to use it."
Q: Why do we need more women in leadership?
"I do not believe it is about having ‘more’ women in leadership, but rather having gender diversity. Diversity brings to the table attributes that could not be had with just one gender or stereotypical image of who belongs in leadership. Having said that, women in general, do tend to respond differently. For example, most women would be less risk-adverse compared to their male counterparts, hence may be more suited for certain roles or even industries."
Q: Who’s your female role model and why?
A: As cliché as it is, I would say my mum is. To this date she is driven, positive, and has a great passion for life. She has raised my sister & I to be independent, which is something I work to emulate with my daughters.
Q: Share a message of wisdom for International Women’s Day.
"My mantra currently is “Cultivate a growth mindset” And something that I read recently spoke so deeply to me, it said: “A growth mindset thrives on challenge and sees failure not as evidence of unintelligence, but as a springboard for growth and for stretching our existing abilities.”
