VENDOR FEATURE - DOLCE ITALIA
As we celebrate International Women’s Day here at Park Street Gourmet, we’re highlighting our female vendors making a difference in the local food industry by asking them to share an inspiring and empowering message to all of us.
Today, we speak with Manuela and Florence, the dynamic duo behind Dolce Italia.
Q: How long have you been running your business for?
"Dolce Italia is actually 2 ladies, Manuela and Florence and we cannot be dissociated 😊
We started the first company 6 years ago (we have now 4).
Q: What do you think helped you get this far in your business? How can we mentor young girls to pursue their dreams and keep dreaming bigger?
"We managed to get this far because we believed in us as a team; we were/are passionate and we worked/work very hard to build something meaningful to us.
The biggest help we can give to young girls is support them so they gain confidence and can fully express their passions."
Q: Share an empowering moment as a woman that inspired you.
"The “He for She” campaign hosted by UN Women Goodwill Ambassador Emma Watson. The aim of the campaign was to involve men and boys in promoting gender equality.
That campaign really meant something to me. Manuela and I, were convinced since the beginning that a cohesive team constitutes a cornerstone of a successful company. But to be cohesive a team has to be gender and talent balanced."
Q: What is one piece of advice to all women who are juggling between home and work?
"We cannot be perfect and do everything by ourselves, thus the importance of believing in the team and delegating as much as possible (delegating not dropping randomly the tasks on team members)."
Q: Why do we need more women in leadership?
"Empowering women is essential to the health and social development of families, communities and countries and empowering girls is the key to economic growth, political stability and social transformation."
Q: Who’s your female role model and why?
"I don’t have one only female role model. They are so many women that have impressed me in the past and so many that impress me today, every day and for so many different reasons.
They are different ladies for example the New Zealand’s prime Minister Jacinda Ardern or the cleaning lady I see early morning cleaning the streets.
What impresses me the most in women is their resilience and their ability to adapt under all circumstances."
Q: Share a message of wisdom for International Women’s Day.
"A journalist wrote one day; “women are always saying, “we can do anything that men can do” but men should be saying, “we can do anything that women can do.”"
